Recruit Class 2026 2 Trains With EMS and Air Medical Partners

Boone County Fire Protection District Recruit Class 2026 2 recently spent a weekend gaining hands on experience with the emergency medical and air medical partners they will work alongside in the field.

The training gave recruits an opportunity to learn more about the EMS agencies serving the district, including Boone Health EMS and MU Health Care Emergency Medical Services. Recruits explored the ambulances, equipment and capabilities each service brings to emergency response throughout Boone County.

Preparing for Air Medical Operations

Recruits also trained with MU Air Medical Services, getting an up close look at the aircraft and specialized equipment used during medical emergencies.

The class reviewed how firefighters support air medical operations, including establishing a safe landing zone, communicating with flight crews from the ground and helping create a safe environment for helicopter operations during an emergency.

Understanding these procedures before responding to an actual incident helps recruits build confidence while reinforcing the importance of coordination among fire, EMS and air medical teams.

Emergency Response Is a Team Effort

Firefighters rarely work alone during an emergency. Effective response depends on multiple agencies working together safely and efficiently.

Training alongside partner agencies gives recruits an opportunity to understand their roles, equipment and capabilities before they encounter one another on an emergency scene. That familiarity helps build stronger working relationships and prepares recruits to communicate and coordinate effectively when every second matters.
