Support Services Training
Since the early inception of the Boone County Fire Protection District, training has served as the foundation upon which the organization has developed. Today, while the training demands on fire service organizations are much more intense due to ever increasing responsibilities and challenges, training remains at the fore front of our support functions.
Our practical training is as realistic as possible.
Recruit Training
Upon acceptance as a volunteer firefighter, new members must successfully complete a recruit training program offered by Boone County Fire District staff. This recruit training program meets all national standards however, in Boone County it is taught in a rather nontraditional fashion.

Training sessions involve both lecture and practical exercises.
A number of years ago, in an effort to minimize the amount of time required and maximize productivity during time spent, the staff of the Boone County Fire District partnered with the staff of the Montana State University Fire Training Program. The Fire District piloted a concept that was in development in Montana known as “contextual training.” This training in context format has proven very successful for the Boone County Fire District and has been passed on to numerous other fire departments throughout the country.
Emergency Medical Technician
All Boone County Fire District Personnel must successfully complete an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course and be licensed by the State of Missouri Department of Health. These courses are also taught by Fire District staff and are compliant with all state and national standards.
Continuing Education
Upon completion of the initial training packages, all Boone County Fire Personnel must continue to maintain predetermined training standards by participating in continuing fire and emergency medical continuing education training. These sessions are taught in the respective Fire District stations monthly and are used to ensure that skills are maintained to acceptable levels.
Training encompasses classroom and practical evolutions.
Driver Operator Training
All Fire District personnel must complete an extensive fire apparatus driver/operator training course, which assures that Fire District equipment and personal vehicles will be operated in a safe and prudent fashion.
Hazardous Materials Training
Consistent with federal regulations, all Fire District personnel must complete several hazardous materials courses. These are taught on a routing basis to insure organizational compliance with federal mandates.
Specialty Team Training
As discussed elsewhere in the website, the Fire District operates a number of specialty teams. Those personnel involved in specialty team activities must also participate in additional training programs specific to their individual responsibilities within the specialty team.
Seminars/Fire School/Specialty Programs
Throughout the course of the year a number of specialty programs are offered including wildland certification courses, LP gas firefighting, automobile extrication, technical rescue, management, etc.
Certified Fire Service Instructors
Presently, the Fire District maintains a volunteer of staff of in excess of 20 certified fire service instructors. These personnel have completed additional training and certification criteria, which have qualified them for certification by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office as certified fire service instructors.
