Our society, as we are all aware, relies heavily on manufacturing processes using hazardous materials and hazardous chemicals. These materials are found throughout our workplaces, our homes and on the various transportation routes that support our society. A community’s ability to respond to incidents involving the release of hazardous materials continues to grow in importance as our communities become more populated and our manufacturing processes become more advanced.
| When a hazardous material is released in the workplace, at home, on the highway or on a railway, the local fire service responds. Boone County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team meets all federal training and equipment criteria and is prepared to respond to any chemical or hazardous material release that threatens the public or the environment. The team works very closely with the Missouri State Department of Natural Resources, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard and other state and federal agencies charged with responsibilities in the hazardous materials arena.
| Boone County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team, under agreement with the State Emergency Management Agency and the State Department of Natural Resources, is a regional hazardous materials response team and, as a result, may be called upon to respond within the central Missouri area to support local fire departments who do not possess the advanced capability of the Boone County Fire Protection District.
