Explosive Use and Storage Permits
As part of the code enforcement authority of the Fire District, Missouri Statues and local fire codes authorize the Boone County Fire District to issue and monitor the use of explosives in the community. Any use of explosives, from large firework displays before an audience to blasting for the installation of sewer pipes or quarry operations require the necessary explosive permit. Using the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 495, EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS CODE, Boone County Fire Marshal reviews the blasting or explosive storage permit, insures that correct explosive magazines are used, determines the distance explosive storage or use must be from highways and buildings and upon compliance with Standard 495, issues the use permit.
Any use of commercial explosives requires a use or storage permit. No blasting can occur until this permit is issued. Information regarding the blasting is communicated to other emergency service organizations to ensure that all necessary parties are aware of the explosive use. There is no cost for the inspection or the permit. Failure to obtain the necessary permits may result in a stop work order and imposition of fines.
