Gale Blomenkamp, Division Chief/PIO - Friday, August 07, 2009
The Boone County Fire Protection District responded to assist with the removal of a vehicle from a body of water located on Wehmeyer Road in western Boone County on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department had been asking for assistance in locating a gentleman, Mark Durrant 52 of Columbia, who went missing late Monday evening and was a type one diabetic. Mr. Durant was last seen in the area of Wehmeyer RD W and Dometrorch RD N around 10 p.m. Monday night. Close friends and family had been searching this area for most of the day on Wednesday when a fixed wing aircraft assisting in the search noticed a discoloration in a farm pond located about 80 yards from the roadway. When officers made their way to the water’s edge it was believed to be the vehicle of Mr. Durrant.
Boone County Firefighters responded with Boat 107 and was able to launch from shore to identify that it was indeed a vehicle with a storage rack on top. The Missouri State Water Patrol Dive Team was requested to hook the vehicle so it could be pulled from the water.
Once the vehicle was pulled from the water, the Sheriff’s department confirmed it was the vehicle Mr. Durrant was driving and that he was inside. The Boone County Sheriff’s office is continuing their investigation, however, foul play is not suspected.
